Rules

Article 1: Organiser and competition objective

The Pôle Enfant (Children Division), Competitiveness division labelled by the government in July 2005, whose registered office is situate 34 Rue Nationale, 49300 Cholet, France. The Pôle Enfant is organising the 2nd edition of the Design Trophy called "Trophée Up Design". The purpose of this Trophy is to reward the most innovative ideas from art and design school students worldwide on the theme of smooth development of children aged 0-12.

Article 2: Applicants

The Trophée Up Design is open to students in art and design schools worldwide who shall take part in the competition individually. As regards underage people, the game is under the responsibility and with the permission of legal representatives with parental authority who can give their permission. Groups are allowed only provided they are represented by a person empowered by the coapplicants of the project. Any submitted project must mention the name and contact information of the candidate of the competition.

Article 3: Theme of the competition

Growing up and enjoying life, the development of children (aged 0-12) is at the core of all concerns. The objective of the Trophée Up Design is to propose innovative and creative aspects of everyday life for children (aged 0-12). Completely revamping an object from the universe of children (aged 0-12), imagining a new one (new functionalities or combined differently), innovatively meeting a need related to the smooth development of children (aged 0-12)… Applicants shall make a both simple and innovative proposal for the various actors of a child's environment (children, parents, families, educators, teachers, etc.).

Article 4: Registration conditions

Dates:
Trophée Up Design is open from March 10 to September 30, 2008. Files shall be submitted via the Website www.trophee-updesign.com by September 30, 2008.

Selection:
A pre-selection will take place during summer 2008 (maximum of 20 selected projects). This pre-selection will then be submitted to a Panel of professionals who will select the winner of the Trophée Up Design 2008.

Article 5: Registration procedures and participation terms and conditions for the Trophée Up Design

Trophée Up Design is open to all art and design schools worldwide.

Registration:
Registration is done online via the Website www.trophee-updesign.com. An online registration form is available in section "Inscription" (Registration). It will be accessible until September 30, 2008, the closing date of registrations. Once the form is completed, sent and received by the organiser of the competition, a confirmation will be sent to each participant by e-mail.

Participation in the Trophée:
Applicants must send their project file by the September 30, 2008, i.e. registration deadline.

It will also be possible to send the files to the following address: Pôle Enfant – Trophée Up Design – 34 Rue Nationale – 49300 Cholet, France.

This file shall include:

  • A title for the proposed project
  • A summary (10 pages maximum) of the entire project and creation process (starting point, objectives, setting-up, operation, financing, etc.) (accepted formats: pdf / word/ ppt)
  • 5 visual aids maximum depicting the project (accepted formats: jpeg / gif / pdf / eps)

Projects submitted by mail should be sent on a CD (.pdf and/or JPG files). Applicants will also have the possibility to create prototypes of their project and send them by mail together with their complete file.

It is the responsibility of applicants to comply with the formats indicated below. The organiser shall not be responsible in the case that he/she could not read the documents sent for technical reasons.

Important:
All the information required on the form is indispensable and mandatory to take part in Trophée Up Design. All applicants must have a valid E-mail address. Any incomplete, erroneous registration or any registration by a person who does not meet pre-requisites shall be considered as invalid.

Article 6: Constraints

Your project must be in keeping with the environment of children aged 0 to 12, bringing it a specific innovation.

Article 7: Content of the projects

Applicants shall ideally create three to six visual aids for their projects, from various angles (in situation, focussed on certain particularities, etc.) with an explanatory caption. Projects will be supported by a pitch in either French or English describing and explaining the relevance of the concept presented (material chosen, human engineering, specific functionalities, dimensions, etc.). The style is left to the discretion of the applicants: engineering, crayon, poster paint drawings, computer-generated images, photomontages, perspective drawing with colours, sketches, etc.

Article 8: Selection criteria

Projects will be judged as per the criteria below:

  • Relevance of the response to the theme of the Trophée,
  • Originality of the design,
  • Innovative aspect of the project,
  • Ease of use,
  • Quality of the written and visual presentation of the project.

Article 9: Jury panel

A Jury panel made up of members of the Pôle Enfant, industrialists and designers from the environment of children (aged 0-12) will select 10 winners and the Trophée Up Design Grand Prize as per the selection criteria set out in article 8. Organisers reserve the right not to display the files which seem non compliant with these rules.

The Jury panel shall select the 10 winning projects in October 2008. The date will be communicated via the Website www.trophee-updesign.com.

Article 10: Prizes

A total of €9,500 will be shared by the top three entries as follows:

  • 1st prize: 5 000 euros
  • 2nd prize: 3 000 euros
  • 3rd prize: 1 500 euros

These 10 winners will be involved in online and offline press revolving around the Trophée Up Design.

Article 11: Expenses covered

Participation in the Trophée Up Design is free of charge.

Article 12: Ownership of projects and copyrights

Applicants remain holders of all intellectual property rights associated with the projects submitted to the Trophée Up Design and their royalties. But they are solely responsible for protecting their design by filing a patent or a model as required. The organiser shall not be held liable in case of prejudice resulting from negligence on the part of the participant and regarding intellectual property protection. All candidates accept through their participation in the Trophée Up Design that their project can be part of press revolving around this Trophée. Applicants thus allow the organiser to mention the selected projects and the name of the authors (notwithstanding Article 13 below) in press releases and articles or brochures and to display them on the Websites www.trophee-updesign.com and www.poleenfant.fr, or in public events at his/her discretion without limitation as to time and without granting them the right to any compensation or benefit other than the prize which may be awarded to them. To this end, the organiser can make any copy, graphic representation or take pictures of the selected and rewarded projects as well as their authors, as long as their names are referenced. All candidates undertake to ensure that any submitted project in no way breached the rights of a third party and guarantee the organiser against any claim or action for this purpose.

Article 13: Nominative information

In accordance with Article 34 of the French law on "Informatique et Libertés" (IT and liberties) dated January 6, 1978, each candidate registering for the Trophée Up Design has the right to access, modify, rectify and remove data concerning him/her. Article 14: Liability of the organiser

The organiser reserves the right to shorten, prolong, modify or cancel the competition without justification and without being held liable. Likewise, the organiser shall not be held liable in cases where access or consultation of the Website www.trophee-updesign.com proves to be difficult or even impossible for applicants.

Article 15: Acceptance of the rules

The rules are filed by the professional civil company SCP Montel-Simeone-Segura-Simeone, associated bailiffs, 21 rue Bonnefoy, 13006 Marseille, France, and are available free of charge. Participation in the Trophée implies sheer acceptance of these rules.
